Overview of Textures for HP Reveal

HP Reveal supports different types of textures for their shaders and materials.

This article explains about these textures and what specifications are required in order for the texture maps to work correctly in the HP Reveal engine. 

Required Specs

The format HP Reveal uses is:

  • .png files, with or without transparency (alpha)
  • 24bit and 8bit depth png maps.

 

Naming conventions

The texture maps should not use capital letters or special characters such as !, ?, #, & etc.  

Example:

diffuse_character_01.png would be good name for a texture map used in our engine, on the other hand Diffuse-Character-01.png would be incompatible, and it would not work properly in our engine.

 

Dimensions (max 1024x1024)

As a general rule in 3D, textures dimensions should be a power of 2 size our engine follows this principle. Power of 2 includes the following numbers: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and so on...

HP Reveal accepts textures sized 32x32 up to 1024x1024 or also known as 1K textures.

 

Ratios

HP Reveal will also accept different ratios for textures. These ratios are the following:

1:1, 1:2, 2:1, 4:1, 1:4.
