Sharing your Auras in the Aurasma Studio

All Auras are made publicly available to Aurasma users around the world by being shared in the Aurasma Studio. Users of the Aurasma app can then browse or search the Aurasma app for certain accounts or specific Auras, and have the option to ‘follow’ them to unlock and view those Auras. We recommend adding as much information as possible to your Auras in your online Aurasma Studio account to ensure that users can find them easily when searching for them in app. Name your Auras well, use detailed descriptions to describe the content, and upload relevant thumbnails.

Check out this video or this post for more on how to share content you have created in the Aurasma Studio!

Once you have shared content online in the Studio, you and other users then view that content with the Aurasma app.

A user simply goes to the search function in the Aurasma app (the magnifying glass icon), searches for your account name or the name of a specific Aura, and hits 'follow.' You can freely edit or delete any Aura in your Aurasma Studio account, and the Aurasma app will take the update without the user having to re-follow.

Following an account in the Aurasma app

Once you have shared your Auras in the Aurasma Studio, your content is ready to be viewed. All you or your users need to do is 'follow' your account in the Aurasma app.

Steps:

1. Launch the Aurasma app. You will be taken to the viewfinder, which also has our Aurasma menu, marked by our 'A' icon in the middle of the lower portion of the screen.

Example:

Aurasma Viewfinder.png

2. Click the Aurasma 'A' menu icon. You will notice a series of options along the bottom.

3. Choose the "Search" icon, which is designated by the magnifying glass. See below:

Search Icon.png

4. Type in the name of the / an account or specific Aura you are looking for. A list of relevant searches will pop up.

5. Locate the account or Aura you are looking for and press "Follow."

After pressing "Follow," a pop up will appear alerting you that you are now following the desired content. Simply go back to the viewfinder and you are ready to view all of the content in that account! Best part? You can add, edit, or delete an Aura at any time in your Aurasma Studio account, and the device that is already following that content will automatically take the update.

Is it necessary to follow a channel to see auras in?

I have seen many auras without following those specific channels.
How to make my auras can be seen even if people do not follow my channel?
Thank you.

Hello Emiliano!

That's a great question. Yes, in order to view content through the Aurasma application, you must follow your Channel in the app. You only need to take this step once. After you search and follow your Channel, you will then be able to see any new content that you add to that Channel from Aurasma Studio. Similarly, if you edit or delete any content in your Channel in Aurasma Studio, the device that is already following your Channel will automatically take the update.

We also offer our users content when you download Aurasma that you can immediately engage with as soon as you launch the app. In these cases, you can immediately shine the viewfinder right over the image without following any Channel. We call these Super Auras. In fact, if you want to check out some Super Auras and see some great content, shine your viewfinder over the images on our main website. Here is a link: http://www.aurasma.com/campaigns/

Super Auras can also be purchased by our clients. These are generally meant for national campaigns that will reach a wide audience. If you find you might be interested in purchasing a Super Aura, please emails us at: sales@aurasma.zendesk.com and let us know how many auras you are interested, how long you would like them to be live for and general information about your campaign.

Many thanks,

I have my college students creating Auras.  Some of them follow the process then save to a channel on their account but Aurasma says they still have "0" auras.  When I follow them they show "0" auras when there is an aura there.  What's going on?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the note. Can you please tell me what device your students are using and what operating systems they are running? Are they creating content in Aurasma Studio or are they working within the Aurasma app itself?

Please provide more details so that we may help troubleshoot.

Best,

Hi Support,

I have the same issue as Mark. My students are creating Auras on an account through the Ipad app. We also have 12 iPads concurrently signed in to the same account. We have added auras to both public and private channels but they are not visible on any other iPad. I have also shared the channel through the link and cannot see the auras even though I am following their channel. We have never had a problem before using this method.... i wonder if something has changed recently. We are currently running version 2.2.0 and i notice that a new version was released yesterday!

Hi … sorry for the late response ... they are using iPads and the app only to create the Auras.  I just found the Aurasma Studio and I’m looking into using it in the future but for now my college students are really doing fine with the iPad app.  They are creating movies and storing them on the camera roll then going into Aurasma, creating a trigger image and then linking it to their videos.  They are then saving them to their root public folder (they are not using channels).  Then I follow them and grade from there.  The issue we’re having is that some of them are showing “0” auras for me and I can’t get anything to register.  They of course can see their aura on their accounts.  This is happening with about ¾ of my students about 75 out of 106.  I keep shutting down my app completely and restarting it but it usually doesn’t work.  I’m not sure where to go from here.  Thanks for any help!

I am a teacher.  My students have all recorded videos about themselves that are triggered by a mystery logo that each of them drew.  The auras are only visible on their own devices or if they each set up an account and have people follow them.  However, I want to post the trigger images on a bulletin board and have anyone in the school be able to view their auras by just following my (the teacher's) public channel.  How do I get my kids to add their auras to my channel?  I now have multiple login on my account, but I am unsure if I would just create ONE additional user -- let's say "Student" -- but whose email address would I use?  My own?  Or do I go through the process of adding every single student, plus their email address???  Not sure how to do this.

Hi Allyn,

Do your students have their own email addresses?  At my kids schools they use Google Apps for Education so they have email addresses.  I would just set them up.  I'm still having my problem as described below so I don't know if you'll be running into the same issue.

Mark,

Yes, we use Google apps too....so this is my vision:

Let's say 15 students create auras on their own devices.  I want the rest of the student body to be able to see their Auras.  So I would post on the bulletin board something like, "Hey everyone!  Check out this cool app called Aurasma.  Download it, follow the ____ Channel, and you can view some hidden videos that are attached to the following pictures..."  Anyone in the school would then follow the channel and my students work would be there bc they would all be "additional users" on my account.  I would use their individual Google email addresses to set them up, but I would create a student password that they'd all share, right?

I'm a teacher, and I want my students to be able to view my public channel.  I've triple checked that it's public.  When we search for it, it shows up, but it says I have no auras.  When I look at Aurasma Studio it says I have 8 auras.  When we try to follow my channel, it says "cannot follow..."  I'd rather not have the students have their own accounts, and was hoping they could view mine without having an account of their own.

Is it not allowing us to follow the account bc they don't have an account set up too? Or is there another reason?  Help!

I´ve followed all instructions and created auras in studio, then I connect my iPad app and can follow the oublic channel. But the trigger images will not work. No communication.
My app works well for the auras created in the iPad.

Following a Chanel to see the auras? Tris is the key i need, but is difficult to our project that the customer look for us. We have a flier with the aurasma trigger and a note explaining that you need to install on your device aurasma app before you can see the extra content. now we need to add that they must first find our channel and click it to follow..... I think it is very complicated. will not have a good usability... What is the cost of a súper aura?

Hi Pablo and Thore,

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback!

Pablo: yes users do need to follow Channels in order to view the Auras inside. As you say, this does require an extra step for the user before they can activate the Auras, but equally it is no different from any other social media form - if you think about Twitter or Facebook, people have to first follow or like an individual or organisation before they receive tweets or updates. Aurasma works on very similar lines. Universal/Super Auras do work automatically however. Please get in touch with us at sales@aurasma.zendesk.com giving as much info as you can on your requirements for Universal Auras (e.g. how many Auras you want live, for how many weeks/months, which country they need to be live in, where the Trigger Images will be appearing (magazines? billboards? etc)) and I will ask one of the Sales team here to call or email you (as you prefer) on the matter to discuss pricing.

Thore: thanks also for your feedback. The first thing to consider is: are the Trigger Images good? Graphically rich, not too dark/sparse and so on? For more on good Trigger Images, do have a look at the relevant section of this guide: http://auras.ma/s/guide. If the Trigger Image is not a good one, then this can cause problems. And do you have a good wifi connection? It may seem an obvious point, but its always worth checking! In addition, its always worth checking over any use of the masking tool in the Studio - this needs to be used properly. It should be used to cover areas of a Trigger Image you do NOT want Aurasma to pick up (like repetitive features), not to focus Aurasma on a part of an image. Quite often partners get this the wrong way round and it can cause a problem. Can you see the thumbnails of the Auras in app? If not, this might show a connection problem...

I hope that helps, but let us know if the problem remains unresolved!

Best,

Support

Like many others, we're having problems with the subscriptions of channels. Some work and others don't - and there don't seem to be a common reason. But we've noticed, that you Aurasma people are now telling people to search and follow channels. But in other parts of the material you tell people to use the "link to subscribe" method. Is it because you've come to the conclusion, that this method really don't work? If it is so, please tell it openly?

We're planning a business here in our country that will ONLY work if the channel subscription works. What we're interested in is therefore the truth. Can we our channel and all the connecting auras work - every time? Would it solve the problem to make a skinned app? If we do make a skinned app through Aurasma will subscribers then still have to follow our channel - or will that specific channel be "included" in the skinned app?

Many thanks,

Helen and Steen

Hi Helen and Steen,

Thanks for your post - to clear up any confusion as to the best way of sharing content in Channels, we at Aurasma would say you should make Channels public, and then have users follow them in app, rather than using links to subscribe. The reason for this is firstly that the former method is just easier and easier to explain to users, and secondly it means anyone in the world with the Aurasma app can find and follow your Channels - your audience is not limited to those who happen to have the share link.

So what is the point of the share link?

The main advantage to share links is that they allow you to view content that is in a 'private' Channel - the point here is that partners often want to test creative Auras out without making them available to a wider audience. Therefore the Channel can remain private and unavailable to Aurasma users, but a team working on the creative side can still share the Channels between a certain number of devices. This therefore makes share links useful in a testing scenario, but less so when you are trying to deliver your content to a big audience or the Aurasma platform in general.

Are there some cases where share links do not work?

Share links do work, although we have heard of some examples where a device, on your tapping the share link, will take the user to the App Store page for Aurasma, rather than opening the Aurasma app itself. It will take you to the App Store if Aurasma is not installed on the device, but if Aurasma is installed the app should simply open, and automatically subscribe you to the Channel. It seems there are some cases though when the App Store is brought up, even when you do have Aurasma installed. When this happens you should close the App Store, and tap the share link again - a second time should, without fail, take you to the app, rather than the App Store. Clearly this is not ideal though, and our developers are looking into it. Arguably it is one more reason to use public Channels which people follow, although share links do still have a useful 'testing' purpose.

Does following Channels in app fully work?

Yes.

Do skinned apps make a difference?

The Channel method works, but skinned apps are another way of delivering content. Their main advantage is that Channels of content are attached to the app as default content. This means users do not have to follow a Channel through the app - they would simply hover the view finder over a Trigger to bring up the Aura. However, we do charge for skinned apps, as these apps are only available with the Aurasma 2.0 upgrade, our paid-for account level.

How do I apply for Aurasma 2.0?

You can use this form to apply - please give as much information as possible:

http://aurasma.zendesk.com/entries/23389777-Interested-in-Commercial-Aurasma-Account

In terms of costs we do not publish flat rate pricing for the upgrade - all our proposals are bespoke and based on the requirements of individual partners and campaigns.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion - could you let me know where you ran into the information about links to subscribe as being the best way to follow Channels and deliver content? There is a lot of information about Aurasma out there and If it is confusing for partners we can take some of it down or look to clarify its content.

Best,

Support

Well, that was a swift and very usefull answer! Thanks a lot. We will apply for Aurasma 2.0 right away.

Regarding the very fine answers, I must say, that you in the written material and the videoes posted by Aurasma should underline the points you made to us. We don't think it's obvious that the "Link to subscribe" method can only be used between "a certain number of devices."

Many thanks,

Helen and Steen

------

Hi Helen,

Thank you very much for the note and your feedback. We are always looking to make our Support Site and various materials as useful as possible to our userbase.

re: "certain number of devices" - you may have read our comment in such that we impose a hard coded limit to a number of devices that can subscribe to channel.  Not so.  We're simply saying that you may opt to use a private channel to ensure that your content is ONLY viewed by those with the link.  A private channel means only those with the link can subscribe, so if you intend on keeping close tabs on your auras we'd recommend using the private channel / subscribe link method.

Sincerely,

Aurasma Support

Hi there,

I am experiencing the same problema that Mark reported on Sept.12. I have created 3 auras with the same picture and overlay in Aurasma Studio, they show there. The image is clear. I have masked the same image three different ways, posted it to a cannel that is public. In the studio, it shows that there are three auras.

Then I try to see it with an iPhone and an LG Optimus (android). In both I subscribe to the channel (Turismo Madrid), then in the android I can see the 3 auras, in the iPhone none appear. Trying different approaches to the original image with both phones, NOTHING happens...

I don't think it is a problema of the picture, since I have tried with other popular images and the contrasts are much the same.

What could I do?

Thanks in advance,

Maria

Ok...was very excited about the Aurasma app, but now am frustrated.  I teach kindergarten and want to use the auras in the classroom for directions for students.  I've created an aura, it is public.  I can view it on my iPad.  Using a student iPad, even if I log into my account on their iPad, the aura doesn't work.  My students are too young to have their own email so there is no way I can create individual accounts for them.  Please help!

Thanks,

Kristi

I am having the same problem that Mark has been having mentioned on Spet 17th:

(They are creating movies and storing them on the camera roll then going into Aurasma, creating a trigger image and then linking it to their videos. Thanks for any help!)

and the same problem as Kristi above....it is frustrating!

I am using the application and so are my students on their phones. My students have made their auras public and added them on the channel that I created. I followed all of the guidelines for creating a good channel that is recognizable and has a description. When student try to follow the channel by searching, it does not appear among all of the other channels. Some students can find an individual aura by keyword search and follow the channel from there,  but they are not able to see any other auras that were added to that channel.

So,

1. So why doesn't the clearly labeled public channel even show up in their search?

2. Why aren't Auras that were uploaded to that channel visible by others who manage to follow the channel?

Is this all having to do with the fact that I need to get the Aurasma Studio account?

Thank you for the advice Support Team.

I have created several channels playing around with the phone app... and apparently a couple of different accounts.  How do I delete accounts and channels?  We are getting ready to give this technology a try on a larger scale in our community but am having difficulties understanding several how different things work.  All I want to know right now is how to delete channels and complete accounts so that they don't show up when I search for them.  Thank you and I hope that you can help.  I am having a seminar on Thursday, Jan. 30th with over 30 folks to introduce the technology to them.

Hi all,

@Kristi, your channel may be set to public, but you have to make sure you follow it on the other devices for other phones and tablets to be able to view the content. Yes, technically, you should be able to log in to the other iPad and view your own content, but if you are not logged in, you can just take the other devices, go to the 'search' function and type in your channel and hit 'follow.' Once you follow a public channel once, you do not need to follow it again. All the content you create will automatically be pushed to the device. Use Aurasma Studio to create your content.

@Dominic, users can definitely create content on the device, but they are not able to place their auras in another persons channel through the device. That means if Student A creates an aura on their iPad, it is local to their device and their channel in their app account. They cannot put their aura in Student B's channel. The best way to get all the content in one channel would be to get an Aurasma Studio account. Your students can create the content and take the picture and make the video and then upload it. Everyone's content can live in one channel and everyone can subscribe to one device. Register for free here: https://studio.aurasma.com/register

@ALL: I see you are mostly teachers. We hear of a lot of connectivity issues (can't find channels, auras not playing) in schools because of proxy settings. Please note this:

Please allow ports 443, 80 of *.aurasma.com
Devices connect to phone.aurasma.com , oauth.aurasma.com , matching.aurasma.com . Content such as videos is downloaded via our content delivery sites cdna.aurasma.com , cdnb.aurasma.com . cdn access is not required to upload Auras. However, it is possible that you are seeing problems due to a failure to connect to our cdns, since Auras created on one device that have successfully uploaded may be blocked from being distributed to another device.

best,

Aurasma Support Team

Hi Brian,

You can in fact delete Channels created on a device - go to your account (using the 'my account' icon on the bottom right when you enter the app menu; then 'My Auras'; then use the pencil icon to delete Auras or Channels - you will see a purple bar with 'Delete' come over the Channels in your account. Just tap this bar. You will first need to either delete the Auras in that Channel or move them elsewhere before you can delete a whole Channel though. If you need to do this, rather than tapping the pencil icon over the Channels, tap the Channel thumbnail instead to see your Auras, and then again tap the pencil icon - this will allow you to delete or move Auras out of the Channel you are looking to delete first.

Hi.  Is it possible for me to create a public channel and have my students add to that channel?  I would like to make a channel for our class so that each student can add auras to it.  The work around I am using is to sign each device into the same account.  It would be better if I could allow them to add to my channel.  Any ideas?  Thank you.

@Brad and Allyn, on the matter of 'how can students add their Auras to my Channel?' there are really two ways of doing this:

1. Do as you are doing and have pupils make Auras on multiple devices which are all signed in to one account - this way pupils can make Auras and place/move them into a single Channel which users can follow...

2. Easier would be to have students create Auras in a Studio account (you can register for one for free here) and have them move Auras from one Channel to another more simply here (this issue is covered in this post for educationalists). You would want the account to have a general login they can all log into. When setting up an Aura in the Aura set-up window, there is a space for naming the Channel the Aura should be in, so pupils would simply need to change the name in that box each time they wanted to move an Aura from one Channel to another.

@Jay, can you let me know the Channel name? By all means submit a ticket to us if you would rather keep this private from the forum! We can take a look and see if other users have had the same issue and what the problem might be.

@Tom - yes changing the Overlay daily/weekly etc is possible. In app when you create an Aura you cannot edit the Aura - you would need to delete it and then create another using the same image but with a new Overlay. In the Studio however (for how to register for an account, see the paragraph above for Brad and Allyn!) you can very easily edit Auras, either by simply swapping out the Overlay attached to an Aura by a drop down and pressing Save, or by creating a number of Auras with the same Trigger Image but with the different Overlays attached, and setting them to be live on different time settings. More about creating an Aura in the Studio can be found here!

@Edward - it sounds like you have done everything right, but have you followed the Channel at the end? Making a Channel public means you can find it in app, but it does not mean (yet) that you can see the Auras. You need to follow the Channel in app first. You might also want to check that the Trigger Images are good enough in quality - not too dark/sparse etc. Finally, check you have a good wifi connection - this helps load Auras more speedily first time round.

I hope that helps you all out!

Hi Folks,

I know I haven't been here in a while but I wanted to update you all on my Aurasma project I'm doing with my pre-service teachers at Bowling Green State University.  First off, if you haven't created a free account for the Aurasma Studio ... do so.  It will make your life easier.  Originally I wanted my students to create their auras on an iPad with the Aurasma App, but that ended up not working as I wanted.  The last two semesters, I've had my students use the Aurasma Studio on the lab computers and I've had 100% success.  They share with me a link to their channels then turn in a hard copy of their trigger images and boom project works!  So bottom line ... use Aurasma Studio!

I've read this entire thread a few times.  I still don't have any answers to why my auras are not showing up in the channel (and yes, I am following the channel)  I created a public channel in the Aurasma Studio called Energy Design II.  I created an Aura which is clearly assigned to the public channel.  Now moving to the phone.  I learned that I needed to follow the channel to view the Auras. I found the channel but when I clicked on it, there wasn't an option to follow it.  I only saw "like"  "share" "private".  After much frustration I finally sent myself and email with the share link. I then opened my mail app on my phone and clicked on the link.  This took me to the Aurama app and it then told me I was following the channel.  Now it still says there are no Auras.  I've restarted the app but it still does not show the Aura.  It seems others are having the same type of problems, but I haven't heard a clear answer to why the Auras are not showing up even after the channel has been followed.  Please clarify.  I need help.

Hi Rebekah,

Thanks for the post.

I am able to locate your channel and follow it using my iphone 5s phone. What device do you have and what operating system is it running? Have you deleted and reinstalled the app per chance?  You should definitely see the follow button and I am wondering if there is an issue with the app that you have downloaded. Are you able to borrow another device to see if you can locate your channel and follow it? I do want to tell you that you have taken all the right steps -- set it to public and search for it in the app. What is your internet connection like as well?

best,

As a teacher, I want my students to be able to create and share presentations using Aurasma. If I create "class" channel, will each studwnt be able to add their Aura to the channel, which will then be accessible to every other student I want to view it?

Hi Eric,

Yes, your students can place all their content in a single Channel providing the are using/creating content in the same account. They will not be able to move Auras from one account to another so that they can then all be in the same Channel. If they are all using the same account however, it will be possible for them to move Auras from one Channel to another.

Is there anyway to get content to play when viewed through the app without following a channel?

i.e. is this a feature accesible in the paid upgraded version? We've just had an animated video and print work go out in a magazine with a trigger image and directions to download the app and hold over image - however we've not put anything about following the channel as had no idea this was the case, even though we'd researched it.

need a quick resolve as the print work is already in circulation so need to get the video content playing without a channel follow - any help please?
